traces of abrasion*
2025
‘Traces of Abrasion*’ is a book that explores the resurfacing of memories that were felt more than fully grasped. Moments that passed quickly but left a lasting impression. I wanted those impressions to return through this work, carrying a sense of touch, texture, and fading familiarity.
The work was created through the layering of images using suminagashi, a traditional Japanese ink painting technique. This method, characterised by its delicate and unpredictable patterns, mirrors the organic textures found in nature. The textured images are intended to evoke a tactile sensation, inviting viewers to almost feel the surfaces depicted. This layering process serves to reflect the concept of fading memories, recognisable yet gradually becoming unclear, emphasising the fragility and impermanence.
